How to Win a Sports Scholarship

Does your child have shot at a college athletic scholarship?

Having a daughter who plays varsity soccer in college, I know that parents secretly dream of the day that a Division I coach will call their house. A teenage jock faces a 2% chance of getting a Division I or Division II athletic scholarship. That doesn’t mean, however, that your talented shortstop or wide receiver can’t win a huge financial package even if no coach ever entices your child with an official sports scholarship. Ironically, Division III schools that aren’t even allowed to give athletic scholarships can be the best source of financial help for athletes.

You can learn a tremendous amount about how to win a sport scholarship by reading a package of three stories that I wrote for CBSMoneyWatch.com.

The first story explains what kind of schools dispense athletic awards and what type of athletes beat the odds of receiving a sports scholarship.

You’ll also learn how to squeeze sports money from Division III schools even though they aren’t allowed to award athletic scholarships. And finally, you’ll discover five secrets that college coaches would like to keep to themselves.

  1. Lynn,

I really enjoy your blog(s) and book. As the parent of a rising senior who hopes to play DIII tennis, this information is very timely and useful.

Thanks and keep up the good work.
